Alfa Romeo displayed its new Q2 system at
The Bologna Motor Show. Using the naming convention begun with the Q4 four-wheel drive system, Q2 features a Torsen-type limited slip differential for the front wheels. Limited slip diffs have been proven to enhance a car's dynamics from a sporting point of view, but Alfa Romeo also reckons that it can be a safety aid, allowing safe acceleration and cornering, even when there are different grips levels under each tyre (for instance in wet or icy conditions.
Q2 will initially be introduced on the
Alfa GT coupé and
Alfa 147, both fitted with the high output JTDm turbodiesel engine. Both of these cars were on display in Bologna complete with cosmetic tweaks unique to the Q2-equipped cars.
The 147 Q2 features a satin effect applied to the car's 'whiskers', grille and door mirrors, and five-spoke 17-inch alloys are fitted, along with a subtle rear spoiler and a chromed exhaust. Inside, the instruments are unique (with red markings and white lighting) complemented by leather upholstery and red stitching on the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake. Standard equipment on the Alfa 147 Q2 includes steering wheel mounted stereo controls, cruise control, six airbags and a Bose sound system.
A similar upgrade is found on the Alfa GT Q2, with 18-inch alloys, dual-exhaust with chrome finish, the same satin-effect grille, whiskers and mirrors and a lowered ride height. Inside, the red-scaled instruments are back lit in white and the leather seats feature the Alfa Romeo logo, as well as the obligatory red stitching.
UK pricing and line-up has yet to be announced.
