What's all this about?
The mighty Range Rover Sport SV flagship is getting a new special and exclusive model. It's called the SV Ultimate Edition and the manufacturer claims it is a 'highly curated expression of the most powerful and dynamically advanced Range Rover Sport'.
Very swish. Does it get more power?
No, it uses the same 4.4-litre biturbo V8 mild-hybrid powertrain as the regular SV, or indeed the only other product in the JLR stable to use this monster engine, the stocky Defender Octa, but when 635hp/750Nm are enough to punch a vehicle as big as this from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 180mph, then 'MO' POWAAAH' is not the issue really.
So what has changed for the Sport SV Ultimate Edition?
First of all, it comes in just one of three SV Ultra Metallic colours (what the company calls a 'tightly defined palette'), which are Obsidian Black Satin, Ethereal Frost Satin and Velocity Blue Gloss. This latter hue is designed to tug at the nostalgic heartstrings, because it is the first time the colour has been offered on the current Range Rover Sport SV and it's a direct nod back to the shade's deployment on the old Range Rover Sport SVR.
Then there are 23-inch forged wheels, in either dark grey or black, with the unique-to-the-SV Brembo brake callipers behind said rims in a choice of either blue or black. Up top is a black contrast roof, while moving inside the cabin comes in Light Cloud/Ebony perforated Windsor leather and the whole passenger compartment is enlivened by a sliding panoramic roof above.
Beyond this, the tech on the Ultimate Edition is the same as on the SV, so that means the hydraulically interlinked and incredibly clever 6D Dynamics suspension comes as part of the package, and the premium for the Ultimate Edition is six grand over the base (for want of a better word) model; this one will set you back £145,995. There's some exclusivity baked in, too, as only 500 Ultimate Editions will be made, they're all for the home UK market alone, and each customer who purchases one will get their new Rangie in a personal handover at the company's studio in Solihull - including an exclusive track experience as well.
Anything else to add?
Alan Nicolson, the UK brand director for Range Rover, said: "Ultimate Edition refines the SV formula into a deliberately focused specification - colour, material and chassis technology working together to deliver a uniquely Range Rover blend of performance and modern luxury."
