What's all this about?

This is the Porsche Taycan GTS. And yes, we know there was a Taycan GTS before, but this one is apparently better. Like the rest of the Taycan lineup, it gets a new battery which is not only able to charge quicker — at up to 320kW on DC power — but it also gives the car more range, with one full charge allowing you to drive for up to 390 miles.

Wow, that sounds efficient…

It is, but that’s not really the point here. The point is power — lots of power. Not enough power to tread on the toes of the headlining Taycan Turbo models, but considerably more than the TAycan and Taycan 4S. With 700hp from its two electric motors, the Taycan GTS gets from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds and from 0-124mph in 10.4 seconds, if you press the boost button — which Porsche calls Push To Pass — behind the steering wheel, triggering both PTP and launch control modes.

Jeeze. That is indeed fast…

Yup, but it is controlled too. The Taycan’s standard air suspension comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) which is combined with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) to shuffle power between each wheel. With two electric motors, the Taycan GTS is of course four-wheel drive, and you can add four-wheel steering as an option, as well as active anti-roll suspension.

In addition to the battery upgrade, Porsche has also given the Taycan GTS the same update to the rear electric motor as seen in the rest of the range, which comes with 75kW more power in this case than the old GTS. The front electric motor now also includes a de-clutching system, which disconnects it entirely from the front wheels to save energy when you’re just cruising.

What about the design?

The GTS is set apart by its special styling pack, with lots of gloss black highlights, and a choice of 20-inch Turbo wheels, or 21-inch RS Spyder wheels. There are Matrix LED headlights too. And inside, there are lashings and lashings of Race-Tex man-made suede, plus black leather, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with the Push-To-Pass paddles and heated elements, heated adaptive front sports seats, and the familiar Sport Chrono package. There’s also a Bose stereo as standard.

What does Porsche say about its new baby?

“With the extremely wide-ranging Taycan line-up, we meet a wide range of customer wishes and mobility needs. Our latest innovations exemplify this exceptional breadth,” says Kevin Giek, vice-president for the Taycan model line. “Even the first generation of the Taycan GTS was already the sporting standard-bearer of the model line, positioned between the Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo. And the new edition is no exception.”

When can I have one and how much is it going to cost me?

You can order a new Taycan GTS now, with prices starting at £117,500 for the GTS sports saloon and £118,300 for the GTS Sport Turismo estate. First deliveries will take place in early 2025.
