What's all this about?
We've already had the Porsche Macan 4 and the mighty Macan Turbo models in the all-new, all-electric SUV's range, so here come some more derivatives. They're called the Macan, and the Macan 4S.
And what does just calling it the 'plain' Macan mean?
This is the new single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant. It is the only two-wheel-drive Macan and uses the 250kW/340hp rear-axle propulsion unit of the Macan 4, only it junks the front motor to save 110kg over its all-wheel-drive relation. The entry-level Macan can, during a limited phase in Launch Control, 'overboost' its output to 265kW/360hp and 563Nm, which - for reference - isn't far off the 4's 300kW/408hp and 650Nm equivalents.
Being lighter but less tractive off the line, the new Macan does 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, half-a-second behind the 4, but the top speed is an identical 137mph. Good news on range, though, as with one fewer motor supping away at the same 100kWh gross, 95kWh usable battery pack, the range of the Macan increases to 398 miles officially, which is a useful increase on the Macan 4's 381 miles.
OK, and how about the 4S?
This fits between that aforementioned 4 and the range-topping Turbo, with its 470kW/639hp and 1,130Nm figures, by using the same front electric motor as those existing Macans, instead swapping out the rear motor for a different unit with a 600-amp SiC pulse inverter. Nominally, the 4S will deliver 330kW/448hp, which increases to 380kW/516hp and 820Nm on overboost. Performance and range stats put it almost bang in the middle of the 4 and the Turbo, with the Macan 4S capable of 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and 149mph flat out, while it'll do up to 376 miles on a single charge.
The Macan 4S is also fitted with electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) all-wheel drive and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) variable dampers as standard, while options will include adaptive air suspension with self-levelling and height adjustment, the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) set-up, and rear-axle steering too.
Anything else to add about the Macan and Macan 4S?
Not specifically, although there's a new colour (Slate Grey Neo) available for the entire range, as well as a fresh design of 20-inch alloy wheel and the option of the off-road design package for all models. Anyway, if you like the sound of the 360hp Porsche Macan, it'll cost you from £67,200, while the 516hp Macan 4S has a basic price of £75,400. They're both available to order from Porsche Centres across the UK now - alongside, of course, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.
