Land Rover has announced that its Defender model will remain on sale until at least 2010. From the start of 2007 a revised model will be offered "including a series of significant upgrades to enhance the ownership experience and meet forthcoming legislation", which presumably means the development of the powerplants on offer as well as perhaps some interior changes.
This year, Land Rover predicts an increase in sales of the Defender model, which has stabilised at about 25,000 units per year. The Defender sits at the opposite end of the range to the luxury/sport SUVs also offered by the company and can trace its roots back to 1948, with over 1.8 million sold to date.
