The Aston Martin DB9 can now be specified with a factory-fitted Sports Pack for buyers that appreciate the DB9's touring capabilities, but want a more focused chassis. Alterations are few, extending to new alloy wheels, spring, damper and anti-roll bar changes (including a lower ride height) and a new aluminium undertray.
Though the five-spoke 19-inch alloys undoubtedly add a sporting touch to the DB9's styling, they are actually lighter than the standard items thereby reducing the unsprung mass, which should have a positive effect on the steering feel and the effectiveness of the damping. As well as a lower centre of gravity thanks to a drop in the ride height of 6mm, the spring rates have been significantly increased front and rear. Aston Martin says its aims were to optimise body control and front end grip, but not at the expense of ride quality or overall weight. Further aiding the suspension's effort is a stiffer aluminium undertray, which replaces the regular car's (non load-bearing) composite item and increase's the car's structural stiffness.
Customers can order the new Sports Pack equipped DB9 from July following the car's debut at the
London Motor Show.
