What's all this about?

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. This is one right out of the blue, or red (given the images), but we're no less excited as a result - it's an evolved Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio, wearing the Italian brand's hallowed letters of GTA. And not only that, but there are two of these things.

Two?!

Yes. There's the 'regular' GTA, which is underselling it somewhat, and then the GTAm. Go for either one and you get an upgraded version of the Quadri's mighty 2.9-litre biturbo V6, here toting an additional 30hp for a peak of 540hp. Then there are updated aerodynamics, with learnings from the F1 Sauber Engineering team and its Aerokit. The result is new side skirts, a specific (and rather large) rear spoiler and an active front splitter. Its broad-shouldered stance is the result of 50mm-wider tracks on both axles, which is said to increase the handling prowess of what is already a pretty stunning car in dynamic terms, and either GTA has a revised suspension set-up with its own springs, dampers and bushes. The 540hp V6 breathes through an Akrapovic centre-exit exhaust for the best possible soundtrack and it also gains centre-lock, 20-inch alloys. The whole car is 100kg lighter than a Quadrifoglio, thanks to the use of carbon fibre for all of the propshaft, bonnet, roof, front bumper, front wheel arches and the rear wheel-arch inserts, as well as aluminium for the engine, doors and suspension, while the interior is drenched in Alcantara and some bits of carbon fibre. And four seats. Unless you go for the GTAm...

Why, how many does that have?

Two. It's the even more extreme, stripped version, junking the rear bench (and replacing it with lots more Alcantara), while it has a larger front splitter and a rear wing made of carbon fibre. It also has a roll-cage, carbon-shelled sports seats with Sabelt six-point harnesses, no door panels and all of its rear glasshouse is made of Lexan polycarbonate. Apparently, with launch control, the Giulia GTAm will hit 62mph from rest in 3.5 seconds. And it's still road legal, in case you're wondering. Cor blimey, guv'nor, we like this thing very much indeed.

How much will they be?

No word yet, but you'll need to move fast once the price is confirmed, because Alfa is building just 500 examples of the GTA and GTAm in total. Join the queue, bud. Join. The. Queue.
