The Jaguar I-Pace EV SUV has had its range increased, thanks to a host of detailed technical changes which the British firm's engineers came up with, having analysed data from the first competitive season of the I-Pace eTrophy racing series and also more than 50 million miles of real-world customer usage. These have seen the I-Pace's WLTP range... not change at all, actually, as it still stands at a WLTP-ratified 292 miles for a theoretical maximum, but Jaguar claims the 'marginal gains' offered by the more efficient software updates will actually result in up to eight per cent better real-world driving range, so something like 12 miles or so. Basically, Jag's boffins have calibrated the AWD system to deliver different torque management in Eco mode, they've reprogrammed the active radiator vanes in the grille to stay shut for longer (better aero, more efficiency), the battery can now run in a lower state of charge than previously, without affecting its driveability/durability or vehicle performance, the regenerative brakes harvest more energy in low-speed driving and are more efficient at recouping kinetic losses with the 90kWh battery in a high state of charge, and the predictive range calculation algorithm has been tweaked to give a more accurate and consistent estimate of vehicle range, to better reflect the individual and incredibly varied driving styles of customers. And if you've already got an I-Pace, then good news: you just have to take the EV to your local Jaguar dealer, where these updates will be loaded into your car free of charge.
