It was teased earlier in the year, but now we've got our first full look at the third Cupra model, the all-electric coupe-SUV that is the Tavascan Electric Concept. It'll go on show at the Frankfurt IAA Motor Show and it's the follow-up to the hot Ateca crossover and the plug-in hybrid crossover-SUV Formentor; yup, Cupra, the performance brand of SEAT, is quickly moving itself to become a manufacturer of electric or part-electric SUVs and the like. This may bother you - on the other hand, it might delight you. The latest one, anyway, is a coupe-SUV with a 225kW (306hp) twin-electric-motor set-up, providing it with four-wheel drive and the ability to hit 62mph from rest in less than 6.5 seconds, while travelling up to 281 miles on a single charge of its 77kWh lithium-ion battery. If these stats sound familiar to you, that's because the Tavascan (the name comes from a small Catalan village in the very mountainous north of Spain, near the border with France) sits on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, which will underpin the conglomerate's wider electrical stuff like the VW ID range and the Skoda Vision E. With CO2 and economy figures yet to be revealed by Cupra for the Tavascan ahead of its likely 2020 on-sale date, all that remains is to drink in the aerodynamic exterior styling, defined by illuminated Cupra logos front and rear, and to gawp at the twin digi-screen interior (the 13-inch central display can turn to face the passenger if needs be), and then try and remind yourself that you're not furious about Cupra just making SUVs and crossovers...
