Honda's US luxury brand, Acura revealed its first racecar at the
2006 New York Auto Show in the shape of the Acura ALMS concept. Acura will enter the American Le Mans series with this car in 2007 celebrating the brand's 20th year.
Though Acura will initially compete in the LMP2 class, it intends to develop an all-out LMP1 car with a possible eye on entry to Le Mans. Though a race engine was displayed in New York, there are no firm plans for the LMP1 car as yet, so it is difficult to say how Honda will tackle the new generation of frugal diesel racecars from Audi and from next year, Peugeot. If this comes to fruition, we could be entering a golden age of endurance racing.
