Mazda sprang a surprise on us all at the Geneva Motor Show by introducing a new crossover that slots in between the existing CX-3 and CX-5 models... but it's not called the CX-4, as you might expect. Instead, the CX-30 - as it is known - aims to offer the CX-3's city-friendly dimensions with the interior practicality of the CX-5. Although, at 4,395mm long, 1,795mm wide, 1,540mm tall and with a 2,655mm wheelbase, it's not the smallest machine in the world. It will be fitted with Mazda's i-Activsense active safety features, a choice of eight-speaker Mazda or 12-speaker Bose sound systems and it has a boot that measures 430 litres with all seats in place - almost bang-smack in the midpoint between the CX-3's 350-litre cargo area and the CX-5's 506-litre load bay. Engines should be the usual array of SkyActiv motors, including the clever SPCCI SkyActiv-X, and the CX-30 should be on sale later this year. Alongside its crossover newcomer in Geneva, Mazda displayed a mildly updated CX-5 for the 2019MY and a 30th Anniversary Edition of the MX-5 sports car.
