What's all this about?

This is the latest addition to the Mercedes all-electric EQ family: shown at the Geneva Motor Show, it's a zero-emissions version of the V-Class called the Concept EQV. Which, Mercedes claims, makes it the first 'battery-electric premium MPV' in the world and it will be available in six-, seven- and eight-seat guises, to suit everything from VIP transportation to big-family usage.

Can you talk me through the specs?

Fairly vague at the moment, but a 150kW (204hp) electric motor mounted on the front axle is powered by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which means a quoted 250-mile electric range on a single charge. The EQV will even go up to 62 miles on just a 15-minute re-juicing, provided you get it hooked up to a rapid charger. Alternative methods of restoring the battery to full capacity include a Mercedes-Benz home wallbox or a domestic socket. The Concept EQV has a top speed of 100mph, which is not too shabby for a massive, plush van powered by volts. Thanks to its electric underpinnings, all of the practicality of the huge V-Class is preserved.

Anything else?

"Mercedes-Benz Vans is consistently advancing the electrification of its product portfolio," said Wilfried Porth, for Mercedes-Benz Vans. "With the Concept EQV, we're now taking the next step. The concept offers all of the brand-typical attributes familiar from this segment which Mercedes-Benz customers have come to know, appreciate and also expect. As a family companion, a leisure-time adventurer or a shuttle vehicle with lounge ambience, the combination of these characteristics with a battery-electric drive mean the Concept EQV is a concept car with a future. And so we're particularly excited that we will soon be able to offer a series-production model on the basis of this concept."
