What's all this about?
It's facelift time for the excellent Mercedes GLC, with the updated car making an appearance at this year's Geneva Motor Show. No word as yet as to whether all the changes we're about to list will filter straight into the associated GLC Coupe range, but there are some big, tasty news nuggets to chew upon.
Such as?
An overhauled engine line-up that features only four-cylinder power... for now. Five models will be offered, which are the petrol-powered GLC 200 and GLC 300, and the GLC 200 d, 220 d and 300 d diesels. They're all four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged lumps, with the diesels replacing the old 2.1-litre engines. These deliver 163-, 194- and 245hp respectively, but the petrol engines go one better by having 48-volt mild hybrid augmentation. The GLC 200 gets 197hp, while the 300 has 258hp. All models use 4Matic all-wheel drive and the 9G-Tronic nine-speed auto is pressed into good service.
What else has changed?
Inside, the MBUX infotainment is adopted, although it doesn't yet get presented on the full Widescreen Cockpit of the other Mercs it has been used in so far. Nevertheless, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch freestanding media display do a good job of corralling all that computing power, while Keyless Go with a turbine motif start-stop button will be standard on all facelifted GLCs.
And what about the looks?
Subtly massaged, rather than radically redrawn, so clock the refreshed bumpers fore and aft, the double-louvre radiator grille and swish new light clusters, which are all-LED up front on all models.
