Porsche has released a new styling kit in Europe coming under the title of Sportdesign for the Boxster that is designed to beef up the car's image. Now that the new kid on the block, the
Cayman S, is currently upstaging the Boxster in the looks department, a Stuttgart makeover is required. This is a makeover that Trini and Susana would be happy with. It incorporates spoiler lips for mounting on the standard front trim; an automatically extending, redesigned rear spoiler and modified rear trim with an integrated diffuser.
The rear diffuser is reminiscent of the
Porsche Carrera GT and designed to beef up the Boxster's image by proxy. And to most convertible drivers, image is bound to be high on the agenda. The image of the Boxster holds its own by being a great handling car, and even though the Boxster's rivals could read like the car park at a hairdressing and tanning salon, the competition is far from feminine. Cars like the BMW Z4M,
Honda S2000 and the
Nissan 350Z Roadster, all of which can stand up and be counted as great driving convertibles. They offer an alternative with testosterone, hence the need for the Sportdesign package. It is available now in Europe and offered on all new Porsche Boxsters at a cost of just over 4000 Euros. The kit can also be retro fitted by Porsche Tequipment for slightly less at 3400 Euros. UK prices and availability have yet to be confirmed.
