What's this then?
This is the Mercedes Vision EQ Silver Arrow, a single-seat, electric concept car that both pays tribute to the great pre-war racing cars of Mercedes and also tries to whip up some publicity for Mercedes' new EQ all-electric brand, which officially launches its first car next month.
Using a 750hp electric powertrain, the single-seat EQ Silver Arrow has a gorgeous single-seat cockpit filled with aluminium, leather and wood. Outside, there are 168-spoke alloy wheels, finished in rose gold. It's not all about the throwback, though - there's a huge head-up display, which fills the entire windscreen, and which can give you a 'ghost' Mercedes car to race against on a track, plus digital instructions to make you into a better driver.
"Over 80 years ago, the historic Silver Arrows demonstrated that Mercedes-Benz was a pioneer when it came to speed thanks, among other things, to their streamlined shape," says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Daimler AG. "The Vision EQ Silver Arrow draws on that legacy. Intended for acceleration and driving pleasure, it embodies progressive luxury and provides an insight into the future of our design. As a result, the show car drives the design idiom of our new EQ product and technology brand to the top."
