What's all this then?
McLaren has been busy updating the equipment, suspension and paint for its 570GT sports car.
Not bothered - I can't afford one.
Well, listen to all the new things you can't afford. Apparently, some 570GT customers were concerned that their cars were not as sharp to drive as the more hardcore 570S, so McLaren is now offering a £4,900 Sport Pack that tightens up the suspension, adds a new steering rack and brings the S's Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres to the party. Carbon-ceramic brakes are also now standard on the 570GT, as is the 12mm taller rear wing from the 'Track Pack' option.
Sounds exciting. How about the personalisation options?
You can now add a glass electrochromatic roof, developed by the McLaren Special Operations division, and there are some Design Packs now available. These mix exterior colours with the interiors that McLaren's design team reckon match up the best; Silica White exterior with Saddle Tan and Carbon Black interior; Pacific Blue with Jet Black and Areia (cream); Blade Silver with Natural Tan and Carbon Black; Fire Black with Jet Black and Areia; and Storm Grey with Jet Black and Almond White.
Plus there are some new exterior paint finishes; Curacao Blue, Vega Blue and Sicilian Yellow, and new 10-spoke lightweight forged alloy wheels. Oh, and a little software tweak that means when you switch on the reversing camera, the display now pops up in the instrument panel, not on the infotainment screen.
And what did the bosses at McLaren have to say?
Jolyon Nash, McLaren Automotive Executive Director, Global Sales and Marketing, had this to say: "The McLaren Sports Series is already recognised for bringing the excitement and race-derived technology of a supercar to the luxury sports car market, a reputation that was further enhanced by the recent introduction of the 570S Spider. The changes for 2018 make every model in the range even more compelling; customers attracted by the McLaren blend of lightweight, carbon fibre construction and mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged V8 engine combining to deliver thrilling performance, can now choose from an even wider range of colours, materials and features. Additionally, with the new 570GT Sport Pack, we have reacted to market requests for a 570GT with the driving dynamics of the 570S Coupé. This optional handling package gives the same chassis setup as the Coupé, while retaining the luxurious features, luggage space and looks of the 570GT."
