What's all this about?

The new McLaren 720S has been one of the most talked about cars at this year's Geneva Motor Show, and hot on the heels of the official unveiling of the standard car on Tuesday, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has announced that it will build five themed variants of the supercar.

That was fast!

Nearly as fast as the car accelerates, in fact. MSO is displaying a 'Velocity'-themed car on the stand, while the other versions are named 'GT', 'Pacific', 'Track' and 'Stealth'. Unsurprisingly, no mechanical changes were deemed necessary, so it's a purely cosmetic exercise for those who want their 720S to stand out from the crowd that little bit more.

Those wheels look nice...

They certainly do, and the bronze finish complements the paint, which is a mixture of the standard Volcano Red and a new Nerello Red shade. Carbon fibre weave is subtly evident beneath the surface, while various exterior elements such as the engine cover display the more traditional naked form of the lightweight material.

What about the inside?

Yet more carbon fibre is featured, while black Alcantara and red leather are draped over pretty much every surface to complete the look. The cost of all these changes? A hefty £335,000, over £126,000 dearer than the regular 720S. That's a lot of money to go exactly zero miles per hour faster. Horses for courses and all that...
