What's all this about?
There's another Aston Martin Zagato on the way. It's only been a few months since we told you about the beautiful Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato, a 99-off re-bodied version of the Gaydon supercar maker's flagship styled by the legendary Italian coachbuilding house. Well, perhaps predictably, customer response to the coupe was immense and so Aston is happy for another 99 Vanquish Zagatos to be made. Only this time, they'll be Volante models.
Ah, the convertible. What's changed for the newcomer?
Not much, but then it didn't really need to because the Zagato is an absolute stunner. Like the hard-topped model, the Vanquish Zagato Volante has beautiful, flowing bodywork, distinctive round rear lights, an uprated 6.0-litre V12 engine capable of 600hp (blessing the car with a 0-60mph time of around 3.7 seconds) and an interior marked out with quilt-stitch Z-logos. Obviously, the big difference comes up top, where the bespoke folding roof is based on the 'regular' Vanquish Volante's item; when not in use, the hood is stowed away under a lovely rear deck with twin cowls running along the top of it.
When do deliveries of the Coupe and Volante Vanquish Zagatos commence?
All 198 vehicles will be delivered to customers in 2017. By the way, the Volante's announcement has been timed to coincide with the Zagato Coupe's North American debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
And the price?
Massive. We reckoned on half a million quid for the Coupe, so the even-more-grandiose Volante could be in excess of that. Not that it matters, of course, as all 99 have probably been pre-sold to selected Aston customers.
Anything to say from Aston itself?
"Just like the Coupe, we have emphasised the way surfaces change and intersect to create a muscular form," said Aston's Marek Reichman, EVP and chief creative officer. "We've endeavoured to create an elegant, flowing shape that really works to emphasise the car's sculpted rear haunches."
