Good grief, what's that?
That? Oh, that's just the Mighty Deck concept, a cross between a small city car and a tiny pickup truck, which Suzuki is bringing to the Tokyo Motor Show. It's an odd little thing, right enough, but you've got to love the name.
No, I mean good grief, what's that?
Oh, that. Yes, that's the Air Triser concept, also from Suzuki. It's a teeny-tiny mini SUV with six seats, all of which can turn and swivels and can even convert into a u-shaped sofa. There's also a massive tablet touchscreen that takes up one whole section of the B-pillar. It's an oddball looking thing, so don't expect to see it on this side of the world.
Good grief... Oh, no wait. These look quite normal.
Oh yes, that's the new Ignis, a small, chunky crossover that Suzuki will put on sale next year. No technical specs yet, but it is also showing off an Ignis Trail Concept that beefs up the 4x4 styling with bigger wheels and a chunkier body kit. There's also the new Baleno hatchback - a bit dull to look at, but it should be spacious (it sits above the Swift in Suzuki's range rather than replacing it) and comes with new 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.2 mild hybrid petrol engines. Goes on sale next summer.
What's this second century thing then?
Suzuki will celebrate its first century in business in 2020, and these cars are meant to inaugurate a 'Next 100 Years' celebration of the marque, in the build up to that birthday. Expect to see lots more concepts and future gazing as we get closer to the birthday cake.
