What's this then?
Ford has a new Ranger pickup that is set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show
.
.
What's new about it?
Pretty much everything, actually. Looks-wise it gets a sharper image with a more angular front grille, new headlights and redesigned front and rear bumpers. Inside it looks less utilitarian than before too, with more creature comforts including the option of Ford's eight-inch SYNC 2 touchscreen infotainment system.
Are there new engines too?
Yes, and this is potentially bigger news for prospective owners. The old 120- and 150hp diesel engines have been replaced with a new 160hp 2.2-litre TDCi unit that returns 43.5mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 171g/km of CO2 - an improvement on the previous engines.
For those that need more pulling power Ford will also offer a 200hp 3.2-litre TDCi engine that can tow up to 3,500kg. Both engines will be available with either manual or automatic transmissions as well as two- or four-wheel drive.
How else has Ford improved the new Ranger?
Buyers will be able to choose from a variety of safety-related driver aids including Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, Rear View Camera as well as a standard Electronic Stability Control system that includes rollover mitigation and trailer sway control.
What's this Wildtrak model?
The range-topping model is called the Ranger Wildtrak, and as before it comes with a number of unique design features. Shown here in a striking Pride Orange hue, the Wildtrak has a unique sports hoop, machined 18-inch alloy wheels and unique graphics along the bottom of the doors. The trapezoidal grille is finished in a dark, liquid metallic grey finish as are the door handles, door mirrors, side air vents, load bed rails and tail lamps.
Inside, the part-leather seats receive two-tone black and orange upholstery and this colour scheme is continued throughout the cabin with contrasting orange stitching used on the dashboard, multifunction steering wheel and gear selector.
