Ford's Mustang has been in existence for 50 glorious years, and the American carmaker is in the mood to celebrate the fact. Back in the year 1965, Ford took a Mustang Convertible prototype to the top of the Empire State Building in Manhattan, a feat that was considered impossible. Now, exactly 50 years hence, Ford wants to recreate the scene and display the new version Mustang Convertible at the observatory on the 86th floor of the building, as a part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.

The car will be taken atop the building in parts and Ford technicians will have to put it together in less than six hours to showcase the car to the public on April 16 and 17. Driving the car up 86 floors is out of the question, and so is airlifting, which leaves Ford with just one option: to do it like they did in 1965.

On April 16, enthusiasts from 16 countries will come together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the pony car. The celebrations will continue at various locations in the USA from April 16-20 before heading towards Europe. Talking about Europe, the car goes on sale in the continent in 2015 and will be sold in right-hand drive in the UK for the first time.
