What's the news?
Fans of the 'Pony Car', rejoice: the first right-hand drive Ford Mustang ever to roll off the assembly line in more than 50 years has been completed, ahead of an official right-hand drive version making it into production.
Since 1964, Ford has sold 9.2 million Mustangs, although only 161,000 of those were shifted outside of its home US market. However, for the new sixth-generation car, Ford has decided the 'Stang needs to be a global product and in order for it to achieve that status, an official right-hand drive version was needed.
That means markets like the UK, Ireland, Australia and South Africa are among more than 25 countries around the world that will now be part of the Mustang mythology. And the first ever right-hand drive US muscle car is a prototype that will be used to conduct various development tests in preparation for the Mustang's worldwide debut in the coming months.
Anything else?
The sixth-generation Mustang goes on sale in the US this autumn and in the UK in 2015, and will eventually be available in more than 110 countries worldwide.
