| Prices and specification | UK market | Volkswagen Scirocco | Volkswagen has revealed more details of its hotly anticipated Scirocco coupé. Initially the GT 2.0 TSI will be the only model offered; next year the range will be expanded with 1.4-litre and turbodiesel engines.
The 2.0-litre TSI engine, familiar from the
Golf GTI delivers 197bhp and 207lb.ft. In early 2009 VW will add a 1.4-litre 158bhp TSI engine and a 2.0-litre 138bhp common rail TDI to the range. Standard transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox, though both petrol engines will be offered with the twin-clutch DSG transmission: six-speed on the 2.0-litre and a new seven-speed version on the 1.4.
VW claims that the Scirocco GT 2.0 TSI will do 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 146mph. Combined cycle fuel economy is quoted as 37.2mpg while the official CO
2 rating is 179g/km.
Two trim levels will be offered: Scirocco and Scirocco GT, although only the Scirocco GT will be available at launch. This specification includes ESP, six airbags, climate control and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. All UK-market cars will be fitted with Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC), which offers three settings for the dampers.
The Scirocco GT 2.0 TSI will cost £20,940, or £22,270 with the DSG transmission. The Scirocco will go on sale on 1st September but customers can add their names to the official waiting list now. Look out for our first drive of the Scirocco on the
