| New Model Preview | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Volkswagen Scirocco |
Those looking for a small sporting car with four seats, but don't fancy a hot hatch, will have a new choice from September. The Volkswagen Scirocco revives an old name in a completely new car and prices will start at around £20,000.
The Scirocco has four decent seats and a useful boot inside its low-slung body, while underneath will be a choice of 120- and 160bhp turbocharged engines. There's also the option of the 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo from the Golf GTI, and VW is set to offer a DSG sequential manual gearbox too.
Diesel fans will be catered for with VW's new common rail 2.0-litre turbodiesel, which has 138bhp.
Volkswagen promises sporty handling for the Scirocco, which is launched 34 years after the original made its first appearance at the Geneva show
. The suspension will be available with different settings, in a similar way to the Audi TT, and this will be called Adaptive Chassis Control. It will offer Comfort, Normal and Sport modes to the driver at the touch of a button.
