We know the all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe is on the way. We even know that a fast version, tagged the M8, will follow on soon after. Well, here's the family growing even further, with the confirmation of an 8 Series Convertible. The big four-seat soft-top GT is undergoing extreme heat testing in Death Valley and the areas around it in the States, testing that includes the car's electrical systems being subjected not only to the 50 degrees Celsius-plus temperatures but also 'exceptionally strong' electromagnetic fields in the proximity of the Hoover Dam's hydroelectric turbines, as well as driving on gravel roads in mountains high up in the Sierra Nevada and long-distance cruises from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast and back. No word on engines for the 8 Series Convertible as yet, although they are likely to closely follow the launch line-up of the Coupe model. BMW also confirmed that the 8 Series Convertible is running iDrive 7, which it called 'BMW Operating System 7.0'.
