Ford has introduced a satellite navigation unit called 'MirrorNavi' integrated with the rear view mirror. It is intended to do away with the obstruction and untidy wiring usually associated with accessory navigation systems and can be fitted to most Ford cars and commercial vehicles.
The MirrorNavi unit is made by Garmin and Wollnikom and features a 3.5-inch touch screen, 2D or 3D display, destination memory and something called EcoRoute. According to Ford, insurance companies class the unit as a fitted navigation system.
The system is priced at £299 plus fitting at a Ford dealer, which should take about an hour. Due to insufficient clearance between the sun visors the MirrorNavi cannot be fitted to the Ford Ranger or Ka (2009 on).
