Volkswagen has announced the arrival of the latest Golf Estate. It gets updated styling, a choice of five engines and three trim levels. The Estate will go on sale in early November, though some versions will not be available until Spring next year.
The Estate's styling echoes the changes made to the
Golf hatchback, with a neater front-end as well as new wheel designs, a modified back bumper and new tail lights. Inside, the dashboard and upholstery are updated.
Five engines are offered: two petrol and three diesel. The base petrol engine is a 1.2-litre TSI unit that develops 104bhp, while top of the range is the 2.0-litre 138bhp TDI powerplant. There is also a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and a 1.6-litre TDI option, the latter available in 89-, 104- or 104bhp BlueMotion forms. The manual BlueMotion Golf Estate has official CO
2 emissions of 109g/km, putting it in VED band B; it also does 67.3mpg on the combined cycle. A seven-speed DSG transmission will be available in conjunction with this engine although it increases the emissions by 15g/km - enough to put it in band C.
The BlueMotion is no longer a stand-alone variant; instead VW will use the name to identify the most economical version of each model. As a result the low-emission engine is available in all three trim levels - S, SE and Sportline. The Golf Estate range starts at £16,380 for the 1.2-litre TSI S. The cheapest BlueMotion model costs £18,000 while the range-toping 2.0-litre TDI Sportline with DSG is £22,580.
The Golf Estate will go on sale on 6th November while the 1.2-litre petrol, 89bhp diesel and DSG-equipped BlueMotion versions are due to arrive in Spring 2010. Full emissions, performance and economy data for these models will be released nearer the on-sale date.
