Volkswagen has released details of the new Golf Estate, which it says has features 'on par' (boom boom) with the
hatchback version. What we're looking at here, then, is very simply a Golf with yet more practicality; VW hasn't even bothered giving it a flash name like Sports Tourer, Avant, or Lifestyle Uberwagon.
The starting point in Germany - where it's launched on Friday, though we in the UK don't have an officially on sale date yet - is 18,500 Euros, which is about £16k. That will buy you a petrol manual in basic 'Trendline' spec, though that includes daytime running lights, climate control and electric windows all round. The spec for UK cars isn't confirmed yet.
Six engines power the starting line-up: two diesels with 104bhp and 138bhp and four petrol units with outputs ranging between 79bhp and 158bhp, all of which are to be found in the hatchback range, unsurprisingly. We'll let you know as soon as we find out then the UK is getting it, but bank on very soon.
