What?
The Ka is the long awaited replacement of Ford's smallest car. The new Ka shares its underpinnings with the
Fiat 500 and will be assembled in Poland. The looks are typical Ford 'kinetic design' while the engine range includes a 68bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre, 74bhp diesel - the first oil burner offered in a Ka. Four models will be offered at launch: Studio, Style, Style+ and Zetec. The last of those can be further customised with the choice of three factory-fitted option packs - Digital, Grand Prix and Tatto - all of which feature special decals and colour-coded trim.
When?
Production is scheduled to start in the autumn so the first Kas will shortly be rolling off the production line. Expect to see a first drive on our
Reviews Page soon. UK market sales will start in January 2009.
Verdict?
We've been impressed by what we've seen of the Ka, although final judgement must wait until we've driven it. Given Ford's recent track record there is no reason to doubt that the Ka will be good on the road and the timing couldn't be better for a competent new small car.
