Virtual and real worlds collide in a new competition from Nissan and Playstation to find two racing drivers. Called the GT Academy, the eight month search for aspiring new talent aims to discover if computer gamers can cut it in the very real world of top level motorsport.
For the two lucky winners, the top prize is the chance to compete in a Nissan 350Z racing car at the 2009 Dubai 24 Hour endurance race in January. The winners will be given full support and training for the race.
Entrants have to register online via their PS3 Playstations and then the selection process begins with an online tournament. The idea for this came about as a result of Nissan's close involvement with Sony and the developers of Gran Turismo, which uses ultra-realistic online versions of the
new Nissan GT-R.
David Reeves, president of Sony Europe, said: "The GT Academy brings the real and virtual worlds of motor racing together and is the ultimate test to see if virtual drivers have what it takes to race in a competitive environment where there isn't the option to play again."
