Yet another folding hardtop coupe-cabriolet goes on sale in July in the shape of Volkswagen's stylish Eos. Classy appearance aside, the unique appeal of the Eos centres around its five-piece folding roof; it incorporates a sliding glass sunroof, which no other competitor has.
With prices starting at £19,410 and rising to £28,095, the new VW Eos will find competition in a range of cars, including the new Vauxhall Astra TwinTop, Ford Focus CC and even the
Volvo C70. Its dimensions fall between the Golf and Passat to reflect this class-straddling.
When the Eos hits VW dealers this summer there will be a choice of three engines, all fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox: 2-litre FSI 150PS, 2-litre T-FSI 200PS and 2-litre TDI 140PS with diesel particulate filter. A 1.6-litre FSI 115PS and 3.2-litre V6 250PS, plus DSG gearbox options will follow later. Trim levels are standard or Sport, though all models come with Electronic Stabilisation Programme, twin front and combined curtain and side impact airbags for front and rear passengers, air conditioning, front fog lights, electric windows, electric heated and adjustable wing mirrors, radio/CD player, 16-inch alloy wheels and parking sensors.
The UK line-up will eventually be made up as follows:
