(14 September 1999 - General Motors press release)
Opel presented an array of world premieres at the 58th Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA - from September 16 to 26). An eye-catcher on the Opel stand in Hall 8 is the elegant Astra Coup which will be in European showrooms in spring 2000. Alongside it, an elongated, new Omega station wagon, christened "Omega V8.com", demonstrates networked communications and driver-support technology for the multi-media mobile of the future. Opel is also unveiling the highly fuel-efficient Astra Eco 4 in Frankfurt. The first "four-liter" car in the compact-class goes on sale in spring 2000. |

Also making its public debuts in Frankfurt, the new-generation Omega, which will already be on the market in October, has been comprehensively redesigned. The Astra OPC, a limited edition developed by the motor sports specialists at the Opel Performance Center, will go into production in November. The Speedster design study was first unveiled this spring in Geneva, where the public reaction was so enthusiastic that it directly influenced the decision to put the lightweight, mid-engined sports car into production. The Speedster is sure to attract a great deal of attention in Frankfurt, too. As well as these highlights, visitors to the Opel stand in Frankfurt will have the opportunity to see the complete, year-2000 model range. Just outside the IAA show grounds, opposite gate 4, Opel is presenting the worlds longest exhibition train. The 280-meter "Opel Millennium Express" has already stopped in 12 German cities where it attracted 130,000 visitors. The unique rail show is a rolling, interactive theme world on the future of the automobile, transport and mobility. Detailed descriptions: |
