New BMW 3-series Touring

The new shapely 3-series Touring
BMW have finally released a photograph of the forthcoming 3-series Touring. As you know, Touring is BMW's posh name for estate (just as Audi does with the Avant tag), but BMW's estates have always been more desirable than the average load-carrier. Specifications will mirror the saloon, giving the Touring a sporting edge over potential rivals. The official UK release will be in October this year at the London Motor Show - we'll be there!

Jaguar XK120 celebrations to include XK180 concept

50 years ago, Jaguar claimed a world production car speed record in Jabbeke, Belgium. In 1949, the standard roadster reached 132.6mph on the measured kilometre run.

On May 30 Jaguar will celebrate the anniversary in style with the presence of the Jaguar XK180 concept car. The Belgium authorities have agreed to close off a section of dual carriageway to facilitate the day. Activities will include the running of several classic Jaguars on the closed motorway.

Opel/Vauxhall Speedster given go-ahead

Yet another stylish, desirable sports car on the way!
This sexy little number was unveiled by GM at the Geneva motor show in March and many (us included) assumed that its purpose was to showcase Vauxhall's latest 2.2-litre ECOTEC engine. However, due to an overwhelming good reaction, the car is to be produced. The underpinnings are based on the radical aluminium chassis of the Lotus Elise, and Lotus even helped with the building of the car. Strange given that it will be a competitor for their baby. Still, the Speedster will have a much larger engine and more luxury items - expect the price to reflect this. Vauxhall claims that the 16 valve 2.2-litre engine has 147bhp, propelling the lithe sports car to 60mph in about 6 seconds and onto a top speed of about 137mph. Very impressive!

Revised Volvo V70R AWD

The estate car that thinks that it is a sports car!
2.5-litre, turbocharged, 5 cylinder engine, 265bhp, 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds, 152mph, 258lbft at 2400rpm. Need we say any more?! This is the latest estate from Volvo - not for your average shopping trip... It is on sale now for 36,815 in the UK. We advise you not to carry your labradors in the back.
