What's the news?
The order book is now open for customers wanting to buy the Volkswagen Golf GTD. Prices for the high-performance diesel start at £25,285. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show last month the first cars should arrive in the summer. If you missed the details when the GTD was announced the latest information is below.
Exterior
Volkswagen has given the Golf GTD the usual performance car trimmings including 18-inch 'Nogaro' alloy wheels, side skirts and a large roof spoiler. Extensive use has been made of LEDs; they feature in the daytime running lamps, smoked rear lights and the number plate light.
Interior
The GTD gets its own gear lever, trim strips and instrument cluster to go with the tartan seats, sports steering wheel and alloy pedals. Options include leather upholstery, Lane Assist and touchscreen satellite navigation.
Mechanicals
At the heart of the GTD is a 2.0-litre, common rail turbodiesel engine developing 184hp and 380Nm - the latter figure available from 1,750rpm. Volkswagen claims 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 142mph; when not trying to recreate those figures up to 67.3mpg is possible (62.8mpg with the six-speed DSG automatic transmission) and the CO2 rating is 109g/km (119g/km for DSG model).
Anything else?
The CO2 emissions and fuel consumption figures of the DSG-equipped Golf GTD are identical to those of the first Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion, launched in 2007.
