What's the news?
Volkswagen has revealed the price of its new Golf, which will be available from £16,330 when order books open on 18th October. The seventh generation model promises to give buyers better value than before.
Exterior
Three trim levels will be available from launch - S, SE and GT. The latter is identifiable by its 17-inch 'Dijon' alloy wheels, front fog lamps, chrome air intakes and 'Cherry Red' rear light clusters. Bi-Xenon headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels are also available.
Interior
Standard equipment levels are up on the outgoing model, offering a 5.8-inch colour touchscreen media system with DAB radio and iPod connectivity as standard; as well as semi-automatic air conditioning. SE trim adds automatic lights, wipers and dimming rear-view mirror, and a multi-functional steering wheel. Top spec GT cars get Alcantara on the seats, ambient lighting and parking sensors.
Optional equipment features electrically adjustable leather seats, park assist, climate control, a panoramic sunroof and an upgraded eight-inch satnav system.
Mechanicals
Four petrol and two diesel engines can be had from launch; the petrol range kicking off with the 1.2-litre TSI unit in 85hp tune and finishing with a 1.4 TSI with Active Cylinder Technology. Figures for the top spec petrol unit are an impressive 60.1mpg and 110g/km. Diesel engines include a 105hp 1.6-litre unit and a new 2.0-litre motor developing 150hp. All engines come with stop-start and battery charge regeneration as standard. Gearbox options, depending on engine, include five- and six-speed manual units or six- and seven- speed DSG automatics.
Safety equipment includes Automatic City Braking, a Driver Alert System and PreCrash preventative protection system for passengers on all models other than the base-spec. Seven airbags and ABS with ESP is standard.
Anything else?
First deliveries for the new Volkswagen Golf are expected to take place in January 2013; and GTI and BlueMotion models will also join the line-up next year.
