What's the news?
Mercedes has revealed prices and specifications for the updated G-Class off-roader. The new model promises to have more power, technology, comfort and safety features.
Exterior
From the outset, the G-Class will be sold in G 350 BlueTec and G 63 AMG guises. The former will sport slight styling changes from the previous model, including a new design of 18-inch alloy wheel, parking sensors and LED daytime running lights. The AMG model swaps the 18-inch wheels for 20-inch five-spoke rims finished in Titanium Grey, and adds an AMG radiator grille, flared wheelarches and chromed twin exhausts. The optional Chrome and Exterior Styling Packs are free with the AMG variant, and priced at £765 and £1,515 for the G 350.
Interior
Standard equipment for the G-Class includes a full leather upholstery, heated seats, a colour display for the centre console and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. Mercedes' Comand Online system is also fitted to all models. For the top-spec version, AMG badges are found everywhere from the embossed seats to the illuminated door sills, as well as having upgraded leather upholstery.
Mechanicals
The G 350 BlueTec is fitted with a 3.0-litre V6 engine producing 211hp, a 1hp increase, but retains its 25.2mpg and 295g/km economy figures from the previous generation. The biggest improvement is with the AMG model, where its bi-turbo 5.5-litre V8 puts out 544hp and 760Nm of torque - 37hp and 60Nm increases - while improving fuel economy by 15% to 20.5mpg. Both models feature permanent four-wheel drive with differential locks, an electronic traction control system and a low-range gearbox.
Anything else?
Prices for the G 350 BlueTEC start at £82,945; and £123,115 for the G 63 AMG. Production for both models starts next month.
