Ford will launch ECOnetic Technology versions of the Fiesta and Focus at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. The fuel-saving Fiesta and Focus will go on sale in mid-2012 and there are plans to extend ECOnetic Technology to more of the company's vehicles.
The Focus ECOnetic Technology is described as the most economical non-hybrid car in its segment. Fuel economy is claimed to be 83.1mpg with CO2 emissions of 89g/km. The Focus is also the first of the company's diesels to feature NOx absorbing technology to cut emissions. The smaller Fiesta is even more economical, managing 85.6mpg and 87g/km CO2 emissions; thanks in part to the first stop-start system fitted to Ford's supermini.
Also making its debut at Frankfurt is the three-cylinder, EcoBoost Focus. The 1.0-litre engine features direct injection and turbocharging to give good performance with low fuel consumption.
From October Ford will apply the ECOnetic Technology badge to all models that are among the most economical in their respective segments. By the end of the year more than 30 models will wear the badge.
