The next generation BMW 3-series will go on sale in 2005 but the car is already being designed and sources say that a concept version will be shown next year some time. We have more info and photos.
As expected, the 2005 BMW 3-series will feature design cues from the new X3 off-roader and the CS1 concept car.
It will not follow the same design trend as the new 5-series or the 7-series.
Unlike these two top-of-the-range BMWs, the 3-series will have more conservative styling but BMW's head of design, Chris Bangle, will have a few radical surprises.
The next 3-series, code-named E90, will have a longer wheelbase, which will ensure improved interior and boot space.
As is typical of BMW the new 3-series will feature a host of new gizmos and off course BMW's controversial 'iDrive' will be an option.
The car will also have intelligent steering and in terms of lighting it will get the latest LED technology with adaptive light control.
Although little information is still available about the engine options rumours have it that there will be a new top model with a 3.6-litre engine. This model will bridge the gap between the 330i and the M version.
The Car Enthusiast will be testing the current BMW 330d in August. Watch out for the full review linked from the main
Road Tests page.
