Hyundai has announced specification and engine changes for its i20 supermini range. Modifications to the engine and aerodynamics have resulted in lower CO2 and increased fuel efficiency on all petrol and diesel models. A hands-free mobile phone system is also now standard on more models.
Emissions for the popular 1.2 petrol engine drop by 5- to 119g/km resulting in annual vehicle tax of £30 and a company car tax benefit-in-kind rate of 10 percent. The 1.4 petrol now emits 129g/km, a drop of 13g/km resulting in annual vehicle tax of £90, while fuel efficiency has been improved by 4.3mpg.
The diesel engines have been updated too: the 74bhp version, with emissions of 110g/km and the 89bhp version, now with a six-speed gearbox as standard, both boast fuel economy improvements of over seven percent.
The changes to emissions and fuel efficiency are achieved by the adding of a low spoiler to improve airflow and also the fitting of an Eco Drive indicator on the dashboard informing the driver of the best gear to select. The use of low friction engine oil and an alternator management system are further engine enhancements.
Inside, blue instrument illumination and Bluetooth phone connectivity with voice recognition is now standard on all versions except Classic trim versions. ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and air conditioning is also standard across the i20 range.
Prices for the i20 start at £9,520 for the Classic 1.2 petrol three-door.
