The second 'Inside McLaren' video has been released, embedded here in all its compressed, internet-friendly glory. You might want to start the buffering process now before reading on...
Alright then. While that's loading, here's what you're about to watch. Basically, in order to keep our already sky-high interest right up in the stratosphere, McLaren is now showing us the latest 'experimental prototype' cars. These camouflaged beasts are the working gestation of the production MP4-12C, which should finally appear next year.
Shot on the Applus IDIADA proving ground in Spain, the videos show us 'XP8' and 'XP10' getting a good workout - two cars that we're told are far more advanced than the car we saw in the first Inside McLaren video.
So what's different about these cars? Well, the twin-turbo engine and its cooling system are revised, as is the transmission and the suspension. You'll have to take our word (or McLaren's) on that, but what is genuinely exciting is that we're promised some performance figures for these prototypes in March.
About time too, but already McLaren is touting the car as better than its competitors. As in, better then the Ferrari 458 Italia. As in, better than the car some already believe the best 'junior' Ferrari ever made.
Mark Vinnels, leading engineer of the MP4-12C, says: "These XP Beta cars are already achieving outstanding results in many of the subjective areas, which includes ride quality, handling and many other aspects of dynamic performance.
"The benchmark competitor vehicles we have tested become nervous and twitchy at higher speed, but the 12C feels more stable than anything I have driven. Because the bump rejection is so good, the ride is smooth and the steering is solid."
