Already something of a coupé bargain, the Scirocco line-up will soon receive a new entry-level version. As from January VW customers will be able to order the sharp-looking coupé with a 1.4-litre TSI engine developing 120bhp and 147lb.ft of torque. Prices for the new Scirocco will start at £18,860 on-the-road, with the inexpensive coupé reaching 62mph in 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 124mph.
No firecracker then, but quick enough. A by-product of the smaller engine will be smaller fuel bills, the TSI managing 44.1mpg and 146g/km of CO
2 on the official combined economy cycle. Equipment levels include everything you could possibly want, with air conditioning, a CD player with iPod preparation, a multi-function computer and 17-inch alloy wheels included as standard.
Volkswagen is also offering a new styling pack for all Scirocco GT models. The Lugano Black package features 10-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black and piano black decorative inserts for the interior. The pack costs £950 and is available from Volkswagen dealers now.
