The new Golf R promises superlative performance, but for those who cannot get their hands on one Superchips has come up with the answer. It's a plug-in remap for the latest
VW Golf GTI's engine that boost power by 25bhp and increases torque by 47lb.ft, which the company says gives the GTI the same power-to-weight ratio as the R model.
With the Golf R managing a power-to-weight ratio of 181bhp per tonne, the reworked Superchips Golf GTI comes in at 183bhp per tonne. Even better news is that the 25bhp is a minimum gain according to Superchips and it has seen up to 44bhp more power at certain engine speeds in the GTI.
Superchips has not performance tested its upgrade as yet, but the £435 engine re-map comes with a full customer service guarantee and warranty. It's suitable for both manual and DSG gearbox models of the new Golf GTI and can be fitted at any of Superchips' 100 dealers across the UK. Alternatively, customers can upload the re-map themselves with a Bluefin handset that they plug into the car's diagnostics port.
