Rolls-Royce has announced details of the suspension fitted to the RR4, now officially named the Ghost. Air suspension and adaptive damping suggest the 'baby' Royce will have a state-of-the-art chassis.
The Ghost will sit on four air springs, with adaptive damping and multi-link suspension front and rear. Dual Integrated Chassis Management systems will take readings from sensors around the car and adjust the suspension to suit. The system is claimed to be sensitive enough to tell if a rear seat passenger moves from one side of the car to the other.
The engineering team has worked to make the operation of the suspension as unobtrusive as possible. According to the engineering director at Rolls-Royce the Ghost remains perfectly poised even under the most vigorous testing. Features such as lift and kneel have been incorporated into the suspension so ground clearance can be increased over rough terrain as well as easing entry and exit.
With production due to start later this year there will be more announcements about the new entry-level Rolls-Royce over the coming months.
