| Aftermarket news | Mazda MX-5 supercharger kit by Cosworth |
One of the few complaints there are of Mazda's delicately balanced
MX-5 is the lack of an attention grabbing power figure. To address that criticism engine specialist Cosworth has developed a bolt-on supercharger kit that raises peak power to about 240bhp at the flywheel.
The package includes an Eaton MP62 supercharger, an intercooler, high-flow injectors, revised drive belt kit and an electronic control unit to take care of fuel and ignition calibration. The supercharger is designed to operate quietly with minimal adverse impact on fuel consumption given the extra output.
Fitting the supercharger increases power from 158bhp at 6,700rpm to 240bhp at 6,000rpm. Torque is quoted as 'at least' 195lb.ft from 2,500rpm to 5,500rpm with a peak of just over 205lb.ft at 5,000rpm.
The recommended retail price of the supercharger kit is £2,999.99 + VAT and Cosworth has authorised resellers across the globe including four distributors in the UK.
