| New special edition | VW Golf GTI Pirelli |
The Volkswagen Golf GTI Pirelli was an instant hit when it went on sale in 1983 and now VW has revived the name 25 years on. In its latest form, the Pirelli model has a 227bhp version of the GTI's 2.0-litre turbo engine.
The extra power sees the GTI Pirelli go from 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds and top out at 152mph, which is 0.4 seconds and 6mph faster than a standard GTI. A six-speed manual gearbox is included with the Pirelli, or buyers can upgrade to VW's twin-clutch DSG sequential manual 'box.
To identify the Pirelli, it comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, body coloured front splitter, side skirts and rear bumper. The rear lights have smoked lenses and the rear windows have tinted glass. Pirelli badges further distinguish the car and it comes in silver, black or blue paint.
On the inside, the Pirelli edition has unique yellow stitching to contrast with the black leather on the seats, steering wheel and handbrake lever. The half-leather seats also have a tyre tread pattern on their cloth centres.
Prices for the Golf GTI Pirelli start at £22,555 and the first deliveries are due to arrive in the UK in June.
