| New Engine Variants | Ford Mondeo Econetic |
The Ford Mondeo joins the Focus in the vanguard of Ford's environmentally friendly models. A 1.8-litre turbodiesel engine is the main feature of the Mondeo Econetic, with 113bhp and carbon dioxide emissions of less than 140g/km.
The Econetic has a six-speed manual gearbox and particulate filter to make it as clean as possible. There's also lowered suspension to drop wind resistance, improved aerodynamics and low rolling resistance tyres.
Ford has at the same time topped the Mondeo diesel range with the addition of a new 2.2-litre engine with 173bhp. The new unit produces 165g/km, but we'll have to wait for Ford to announce performance figures for this new turbodiesel, which will only be available in Titanium X trim.
Rounding off its diesel upgrades, Ford has increased power of the 2.0 TDCi from 128- to 138bhp if ordered with the six-speed automatic gearbox.
