| New Model Preview | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Mazda2 three-door |
It's still a few weeks till the
Geneva motor show kicks off at the beginning of March, but Mazda just couldn't wait to show us this picture of its new three-door Mazda2 supermini, which will make its debut at the show and is expected to reach showrooms in the UK in April.
The three-door retains identical exterior dimensions to the
five-door Mazda2 already on sale in the UK, so offers the same interior space and a similarly low overall weight. Mazda expects the three-door to also mimic the five-door's excellent five-star passenger safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
Buyers will have the same choice of engines as in the five-door, so the Mzda2 thee-door will come with 1.3- and 1.5-litre petrol units, and a 1.4-litre turbodiesel. Trim and specifications are also expected to mirror the five-door's line-up, though Mazda says the three-door model will provide an even 'sportier feel at a more affordable price', so expect the three-door to cost £500 less than its five-door sibling. We're also hoping that a sportier model will be sired from the three-door, though it's unlikely the MPS brand will be employed.
