Honda's
Civic Type R may be one of the most frantic hot hatches out there, but now it has a new challenge: taking on the Wales Rally Great Britain. The Type R will be swapping tarmac for gravel on the Welsh rally stages as it makes its debut in the UK.
Former Junior World Champion Dani Sola will be driving the Type R R3, which will be competing in the class for 2.0-litre, two-wheel drive cars that has just been formulated to provide an affordable route into top-class rallying.
The Type R R3 has been built by Italian specialist JAS Motorsport in collaboration with Honda's engine development division, Mugen. The engine produces 256bhp and customers can now order an R3 to compete with in 2008 if they can afford the £64,000 cost of having a car built.
Dani Sola said: "The new R3 has never competed on gravel. Our mission is to get to the finish and prove the car is as competitive on gravel as it is on tarmac."
The Wales Rally Great Britain runs from 30 November to 2 December.
