| New Model Preview | Mazda6 |
The incoming Mazda6, which is expected to go on sale in Europe in early 2008, is longer, wider and taller across the range, yet is up to 35kg lighter than the
old shape.
With this in mind, the top of the range 2.3-litre engine is being replaced with a 2.5-litre engine that brings with it 168bhp and 6.9% greater fuel economy. All the other engines in the range will be the same as on the previous model, a 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol and the popular 2.0-litre turbodiesel. All engines see an increase in power, yet a decrease in running costs through improved economy and reduced emissions.
Looks wise, the slightly dour front end of the outgoing Mazda6 has been replaced with the plunging V-shaped style of grille seen on the Mazda2. Teardrop shaped headlights and smoother curves at the rear make for a sportier looking car all round.
As expected, Mazda has announced that there will be both a saloon and an estate version to go along with the popular hatchback model. Prices remain to be fixed, but anticipate the entry level version coming in around the £15,000 mark.
