BMW has updated the 5 Series range for 2007, as well as adding an
M5 Touring range topper. Direct-injection has been rolled out through the petrol engine range, improving both power and emissions courtesy of high fuel pressure and more accurately controlled fuel injection.
Another innovative technology has been added in the shape of Brake Energy Generation. This uses energy normally wasted in the overrun to charge the battery, thus reducing alternator loading and therefore parasitic loss from the engine on load.
Additional new options include updated sports automatic gearboxes and 'Stop and Slow', an update of the existing active cruise control that maintains the gap between you and the car in front in slow moving traffic, re-engaging automatically from a standstill if the car is stationary for less than 3 seconds. There are also some small detail changes in the styling such as new indicators and a flush fitting kidney grille along with a slight tweak to the price structure.
The new range enters production in March.
